ON Saturday, the Junee junior cricket grand final was won in an exciting game between McGrath, which scored 91 runs, and Hayden on 82.
Hayden got away to a good start with T Sutherland and C Fahy attacking the bowling with gusto.
Sutherland fell for 21 and Fahy was caught out for 18.
L Stevens then put up his hand and scored a valuable 12 runs for his team before being bowled out.
There was some good bowlers for McGrath such as H Evers with two for eight runs, BJ Smith with one for one and C Sainsbury with one for five.
The innings closed with a score of 82.
McGrath’s players came to the crease and began the run chase in fine style with J Jenkins 26 not out, T Field 16 and E Sainsbury with 12 being the main run-getters.
Bowlers for Hayden to stand out were T Sutherland two for 18, T Murphy one for two and T Morris and H Murphy one for seven a piece.
McGrath were named the winners.
In the remaining game for third and fourth respectively Gilchrist triumphed over Clarke by 84 runs to 63.
Clarke’ battled first and B Turner was the only one to get into double figures, scoring 13.
Gilchrist bowler J Kelly stood out taking two wickets for four runs.
Gilchrist then took their turn at the crease and AJ Bradley and K Ross blasted the bowling all over the field.
Bradley finished not out for 43 as was K Ross not out on 20.
C Hart again tried to stem the run flow taking one wicket for eight.
A Hart also took one for eight as did H Turner.
Gilchrist finished third in the competition.
