Weeds, roads and nursing on council agenda

19 Jan, 2012 06:30 AM
COUNCILLORS Lola Cummins and Norm Bray will be taking a full briefcase to the G Division conference in February.

On Tuesday Junee Shire Council voted to bring several motions to the conference to be considered for representation by the Shires Association of NSW.

The council will ask the division to call for wheat and grains to return to main and branch rail lines to stop damage to roads, and for nursing refresher courses for the region to allow regional nurses to return to the profession.

Council also passed a motion asking for St John’s Wort to be taken more seriously and provide eradication support.

Ensuring regional airlines such as Regional Express have necessary space at Mascot Airport and water services and infrastructure is put in public ownership rather than private enterprise were two issues to be considered by G Division.

Lastly, Cr Ron McPherson also asked for a review of foreign investment on family farms and ensure there is oversight of overseas buyers of Australian farms.

The G Divison conference will take place on February 16.
