JUNEE residents may have spotted a Mercedes-Benz single decker bus travelling around town on Tuesday.
On board the bus were representatives of tourism and visitor centre operators from Young, Cowra, Canberra plus a number of local representatives.
The visitors were in town to find out what Junee is all about and familiarise themselves with what is on offer for tourists.
As part of Junee Shire Council’s tourism development plan, the day was organised to raise the profile of Junee which otherwise might merely be a stop on the way to Wagga.
On the list of venues to be visited were Belmore Manor, Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory, Junee Tourist Park, the Roundhouse and Broadway museums.
Riverina Regional Tourism chairman Ken Murphy praised the execution of familiaristation event and said it was a positive move by Junee.
Mr Murphy said it was a significant drawcard for visitor centre staff in other towns have an understanding of what was available – not just attractions, but walking tracks, heritage features and accomodation.
Linda Virgo and Amy Leslie from Cowra Visitor Centre said it had been a real eye opener for them to come down on Tuesday.
With Cowra being a significant crossroads for travellers with a large number of travellers heading to Wagga, Ms Virgo and Ms Leslie said they would be able to promote Junee a little bit better having visited.
Helping the visitors make their way around town was bush poet and councillor, Neil Smith, who said it was a great opportunity to showcase Junee and the Rhythm and Rail Festival.
