SINCE asking the community about potentially dangerous dogs in the district Junee Shire Council has received a number of responses.
Council development and environmental services director Ralph Tambasco said inspections would begin soon.
Mr Tambasco said ensuring the dogs were registered and micochipped was only one part of a resident’s responsibilites under the Companion Animals Acts with enclosed yards also a requirement.
“We want to educate people of their requirements under the act,” he said.
Mr Tambasco said council was not interested in anonymous complaints or reports from the community as inspections of animals would also include follow ups with residents who had reported the dogs.
Council is appealing for help from the community because it does not have the resources to run a full-time dog patrol such those operating in Wagga.
But Mr Tambasco said there was an animal control officer who could respond to emergenices.
“We can’t stop a dog barking, but potentially prevent another attack,” he said.
Council appealed to residents to help locate potentially dangerous dogs after a staghound attacked
and fatally mauled a Jack Russell and wounded its owner two weeks ago.
