Scam warning issued by police

25 Feb, 2010 11:42 AM
POLICE in the Wagga Local Area Command are warning residents of a potential scam circulating in the region.

Police believe person/s unknown are forwarding correspondence via post and email.

The letter states the receiver is a relative of a deceased person in the UK and by supplying their personal details they will be able to claim a substantial inheritance.

The email appears to be generated from the UK and letters by mail are post marked from the UK.

Detective Inspector Dale Holmes said the sender’s intent is to obtain personal details for fraudulent purposes.

“Do not fall for this scam and if you receive one of these letters, delete it or throw it in the bin.

“These offenders thrive on securing potential victims with the lure of easy money.”
