JUNEE Shire Council will conduct resealing work on a number of roads throughout the area starting next month.
Sections of highway between Wagga, Junee and through to Temora will be updated, while some of the town’s residential streets will also be resealed.
Council engineering services manager Colin Macauley said a number of key areas had been earmarked for resurfacing both in town and in other parts of the shire.
“We’ll be doing some highway work with the RTA, placing bitumen seal on top of the existing road,” he said.
“There will be a total of eight kilometres of resurfacing between Wagga and Junee and through to Temora which is costing $800,000.
“The rough plan is to reseal 15km of the Combaning Road which will cost about $200,000 and we also want to do $80,000 of town streets.”
While the majority of funding has been secured from the state government through the RTA, $220,000 gathered from a 10 per cent council rate rise will also be put to good use on the project.
“We promised that’s what we’d spend it on and that’s where its going,” Mr Macauley said.
Likening the resealing to a fresh coat of paint, Mr Macauley said the actual start date would be dependant on weather conditions and the schedule of the contractors, but expected work to begin in either February or March.
He said some traffic delays throughout the shire could be expected once work is under way.
