JUNEE has successfully staged its annual poker run with riders coming from near and far for some fun, music and fund-raising for Junee’s Can Assist.
Numbers were still being tallied on Wednesday afternoon, but a similar amount to last year was raised,
according to one of the organisers, Ron Hindmarsh.
While the weather and floods around the state prevented some riders from making the trip,
Mr Hindmarsh said they came from as far as Canberra, Young, Wagga, The Rock and beyond.
The 240-kilometre ride took in towns such as Adelong, Batlow, Tumbalong and Tumut before heading back to Junee for the Blues night.
“The night went off well,” Mr Hindmarsh said.
Funds raised by the event will be donated to the Junee Can Assist and the Volunteer Rescue Association.
“We’re (the poker run) willing to help out as much as we can,” Mr Hindmarsh said.
The event has also given the Junee Golf Club a shot in the arm, with the Blues night going off with a bang.
Twenty of the club’s members worked on the night together with Can Assist volunteers and poker run committee members.
The golf club was teetering on the brink of financial ruinlast year, but the poker run and Blues night has meant the club will be able to continue and is looking to host the ninth annual run in 2013.
