VOLUNTEERS and members of the Junee/Illabo Red Cross will be knock-knock-knocking on your door this weekend, all for a great cause.
The annual Red Cross Calling Appeal will take place on Sunday between 9am and noon to raise money for the Red Cross’ day-to-day work in Australia and overseas.
As a part of the Red Cross Power of Humanity fundraising throughout March, the day will see donations go towards improving drinking water and improving the quality of life for thousands of people overseas, helping communities prepare for natural disasters and providing food for children who would otherwise go without.
The Junee/Illabo Red Cross is calling for volunteers to put up their hand to donate a couple of hours towards the cause, according to president Brenda Schultz.
“If we could get around 40 volunteers and 10 drivers it would be great.”
On Tuesday, Mrs Schultz travelled between Junee schools to give children an insight into what the Red Cross is and what they aim to achieve.
From the talks alone around 30 children signed up to be volunteers.
In order to ensure the young volunteers remain safe, the Red Cross are asking for drivers to come forward who can transport door-knockers and look out for them.
Volunteers will be wearing red T-shirts with the Red Cross Calling Appeal logo and will use bags for monetary collection.
If you would like to volunteer, present yourself at the Senior Citizen’s Hall in Lisgar Street at 9am on Sunday.
A free barbecue will be provided for all volunteers after the collections.
If you miss a visit by the volunteers, you can donate online at www.redcross.org.au or call 1800 811 700.
