FAMILY budgets are set to get tighter in July after the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) recommended an electricity price rise.
Electricity bills are set to rise 13 per cent on July 1 with further price rises to continue over the next three years.
Prices could surge to 64 per cent more than residents are now paying if the Federal Government’s carbon pollution reduction scheme (CPRS) is introduced with the emissions trading scheme (ETS).
NSW electricity customers were also hit with a 20 per cent increase in July last year.
A typical Country Energy customer will be paying $754
for their electicity by 2013 if ETS is implemented.
But if the ETS is not implemented they will pay a staggering $918 by 2013.
