FIVE cards will be all it takes to make the best hand at the Junee Poker Run.
And this year the sixth annual event will see plenty vying to be the king or queen of bluffing.
Scheduled for Saturday, February 6, Junee will be inundated with motorcycle riders taking part in the run and blues night, all in the name of supporting those battling cancer in Junee.
Event organiser Ron Hindmarsh said this year numbers for the event were expected to climb, thanks to added help from social networking site, Facebook.
For the first time the Junee Poker Run committee enlisted the help of Facebook to promote the event and so far it has attracted over 186 fans.
“We’ve put flyers out all across the state and we’ve put it onto Facebook for the first time.”
With more people expected to take part in the event, it’s hoped more proceeds for Junee Can Assist, which provides support and assistance to people dealing with cancer, will be raised.
Junee Can Assist president Peter Mack said the event was very important to the network, which would allow it to offer pharmacy and accommodation assistance, counselling services and support networking for around 40 people in Junee.
The Junee Poker Run will see riders and a bus for non-riders leave the Locomotive Hotel at 10.30am.
The group will travel to five secret locations, in and out of the shire, with every person collecting a card at every stop.
What cards are drawn will determine who wins the $500 pot for the best hand at the end of the day.
When riders return to Junee, the blues night will kick into gear with some top talent, according to Mr Hindmarsh.
“We have Anni Piper who is the first one off,” he said. “She has travelled overseas and received awards.”
She will be followed by Mississippi Shakedown before the main act, The Detonators, take to the stage.
Prizes, raffles and giveaways will take place throughout the day.
