THE fate of Bethungra, Old Junee and Wallacetown payphones will be decided in the coming weeks.
The villages’ lone Telstra payphones have been earmarked for removal due to low patronage.
Last Friday was the the deadline for submissions on the matter.
Telstra Countrywide general manager Andrew Cotterill said the payphone division of Telstra would decide within in the next two weeks if the phones would be removed.
“We will collect any submissions and objections by councils then the panel will review the submissions, the history and usage of the phone and if it has been vandalised,” he said.
Mr Cotterill said once the decision is made Telstra would contact those who entered objections to inform them of the decision.
In the event of a decision to remove the phones, he said there would be a two-week grace period for further objections to the removal.
