THE decision to rename Willow Park Laurie Daley Park received brief mention at the first Junee Shire Council meeting for the year.
Council general manager Greg Campbell noted he had recevied a recission motion for the previous decision to drop the name of Willow Park.
An initial recission motion lodged in December about originally naming the new broadcast box and a failed amendment for the Laurie Daley Oval at Willow Park mean a new rescission motion will not be presented until March.
Local government regulations state that if motion is twice unsuccessful, any further discussion is banned for three months.
It is belived the councillors who signed the rescission motion want to change the name to Laurie Daley Oval at?Willow park rather than have Laurie Daley Park.
Mayor Lola Cummins said the sports committee would be conducting its annual inspection of sports grounds in February and encouraged delegates to the committee from sports groups to provide feedback on the new name.
Cr Cummins said the sports committee would meet before the March meeting when a rescission motion could again be put to a vote.
The decision to drop Willow Park has caused controversy, with some community members believing it had cast aside almost 60 years of history – or failed to recognise other sports which previously called the venue home.
Supporters of dropping the Willow Park name have said the park was previously named for the non-native willow trees which were previously a feature of the area.
Council will vote again on the name on March 20.
