Move-in day close for Old Junee fire service

13 May, 2010 12:25 PM
OLD Junee Rural Fire Service is expected to move into its new home by the end of next month.

Construction of a two-bay station is almost complete, with only the finishing touches needing to be added before the big moving day.

The RFS’s two tankers, currently being housed on private properties, will soon be relocted to the station next to the Old Junee Hall.

Service captain Robert Turner said plenty of community consultation went into the planning of the shed, ensuring it was a win for the service and the community by locating it next to the village’s hall.

“It’s a win-win for all,” he said. “We will be able to use the hall more for training and the facilities.”

He hopes the new facility will encourage more people, including more village residents, to get on board and become RFS volunteers.

The final touches, including guide posts, electricity outlets, signage, floodlights and a cement pad out the front, are expected to be completed by the end of June.
