IN a tribute to their lost son, brother, uncle and friend, more than 100 people gathered at the Junee Lawn Cemetery on Saturday for the interment of the ashes of stabbing victim Mitchell Ferrario.
Members of Mitchell’s immediate family placed red roses next to the urn, placed by his parents Ray and Gai, before Mitchell’s partner Traci Flint and their son James placed white roses in remembrance.
Remaining family and friends were then welcomed by the family to become involved in the ceremony, placing rose petals over the urn and helping to recover the site with dirt.
Many chose to leave photographs and hats at the site.
Everyone, both young and old, participated in the ceremony which family members described as a moving tribute.
Since Mitchell’s death in April last year, the family were unsure of what they wanted to do with his ashes, but decided earlier this year part of the ashes would be placed at the cemetery, allowing those who knew Mitchell to have a place to visit and reflect on their time together.
After the service, the family came together in a private residence to view a DVD created by Mitchell’s close friends, the Hatch family, with images of Mitchell from his birth through to before his death, played against one of his favourite songs, Hell of a Ride.
