POLICE were called to an Illabo home on Tuesday to find a 64-year-old male had tragically passed away alone in his home.
Rumours were circulating around Illabo yesterday that the man had been dead for up to 12 days before his body was discovered.
However police confirmed he would have been dead for only one to two days at most.
The remains of the man, known throughout the community only as Kevin, were discovered by police after they were called out to the home around 1pm to check on the man after concerns were raised for his welfare.
Wagga Local Area Command Detective Sergeant Dale Holmes said police were not treating the death as suspicious.
"He didn't attend a doctor’s appointment and police travelled to Illabo and the man was located inside the house."
He said it was not a matter for detectives or the coroner and the death was dealt with an issue of a doctor’s certificate.
According to a police report the man was suffering from an ongoing medical condition.
Illabo Pub and General Store owner Phil Carter said the man generally kept to himself despite attempts made by residents to talk to him.
"No one around town really knew him. He lived in a caravan and kept to himself."
According to locals he was a drifter who moved to Illabo a couple of years ago.
He would regularly be seen around town using public amenities, including the Illabo Showground showers, as his property had no running water, toilet or electricity.
A resident who wished to remain anonymous said the incident was "awful" to hear about.
She said despite attempts made by residents to talk to him, he would often refuse to respond to residents acknowledgements opting to keep much to himself.
