WITH 12 months off the road, Junee woman Vanessa Field has time to think about the dangers of drink-driving.
Facing Junee Local Court last week, Ms Field pleaded guilty to driving with high-range PCA –more than three times the legal limit.
Facts tendered to the court said on an April night, Junee police pulled over a Commodore on Denison Street for the purpose of a random breath test.
The driver was taken to the station were she returned a reading of 0.175.
Solicitor Michael Commins said Ms Field had consumed six glasses of wine before she ran out of cigarettes.
It was then she decided to drive to a friend’s place, a distance of two kilometres away.
With a time difference of about 35 minutes between being pulled over and taking the official breath analysis test, Mr Commins argued the reading would have been higher when officially recorded as the alcohol took affect.
He said given the fact she co-operated with police, she should be granted a suspended sentence.
Magistrate Anthony Murray said Ms Field was looking at a fine and disqualification, but in the event of another incident, she would be looking at a jail term.
He said given Ms Field’s traffic record was “not flash”, but her criminal record was clean, he would fine her a total of $876 and disqualify her from driving until July 2011.
“You were three times the legal limit – you should have known,” he said.
