28 Jan, 2010 09:36 AM
A WOMAN will appear in Junee Local Court in March after she was allegedly caught trying to smuggle a large amount of heroin into Junee Correctional Centre.

Police were called about 4pm on Saturday, January 23, during the afternoon session of the jail’s visiting hours.

A 24-year-old Bowral woman was arrested and taken to Wagga police station while further inquiries are being made into the actions of a 31-year-old woman.

It is understood corrections staff stopped the 24-year-old, who had booked in to visit her fiance, for a random search. Police said she was asked if she had any illegal drugs in her possession to which she allegedly replied, “yes, I do”.

She allegedly revealed three small balloons containing heroin and a search of her handbag is alleged to have uncovered another two balloons containing the drug.

In total, police say she had 8.2 grams of heroin in her possession.

She was charged with possessing a prohibited drug, supply and introducing an illegal substance into a correctional centre. She was granted conditional bail to appear at Junee Local Court on March 3.

Police allege the 31-year-old woman was found to have a balloon containing a number of tablets and inquiries are continuing in relation to the items.
