VISITORS to Junee now have a one-stop location to find out about all that Junee has to offer.
From accommodation to points of interest and local attractions, the Junee Visitor Information Centre is now offering tourists the best in local knowledge.
Up and running since Monday, Junee Shire Council tourism manager Linda Tillman said the site had already been greeting tourists, thanks to a number of new signs erected around town.
Over the weekend alone, she said Junee Junction Recreation and Aquatic Centre staff fielded a number of inquiries from tourists, including some from a Queensland couple.
By Monday afternoon she and the first volunteer to man the desk, Ross Woolman, had provided information to a handful of visitors.
She said so far around 90 per cent of businesses and attractions had provided information brochures to the centre, with some even taking the opportunity to create new and updated versions.
“Junee is our priority, but we also stock information on other Riverina areas too,” she said.
Ross Woolman was the first volunteer to work a shift at the centre, and considering his 14-year background in tourism, he was a perfect candidate to welcome tourists to the town.
He, like the other volunteers, has taken part in customer service training and a tour of some of the tourism hot spots in and surrounding Junee.
He said so far the volunteers for the centre had taken tours of the Roundhouse, Licorice Factory and Monte Cristo and there were plans in place to keep visiting
locations and hotels to have a thorough knowledge of each location they recommend to passers through.
The desk will not always be manned by a local volunteer,
however, staff have been trained to offer assistance to anyone with questions.
The official opening of the centre is expected to take place in late April.
