 Happy Australia Day, Junee

Happy Australia Day, Junee

26 Jan, 2012 06:00 AM
IT’S THE day to celebrate what’s great in Junee and there’s plenty to do.

Some Junee residents will be getting up at the crack of dawn for the annual fun run from Park Lane.

The GEO Group and Junee Junction Recreation and Aquatic Centre (JJRAC) Jail Break Fun Run will start at 7.30am.

Starting from Park Lane, runners will complete a 4.5-kilometre course before finishing at JJRAC for a barbecue breakfast cooked by Junee Can Assist.

For those locals not interested in a jog, official celebrations begin in JJRAC’s stadium at 9.30am with a small program of official duties before finishing at 10.30am.

Junee’s Australia Day awards will be announced during the official ceremony, with the citizen and young citizen of the year recognised.

Sports awards will also be announced and afterwards the GEO Group’s Youth in Focus scholarships will be presented to deserving recipients.

To help celebrate what’s great, JJRAC will have free entry to the swimming pool to help residents escape the heat up until midday.

As a great way to finish off the day, the Junee Harness Racing Club will be hosting their Carnival of Cups

including the Junee Pacer’s Cup race.

A slew of Junee drivers will be headlining the action at the Junee Showgrounds which should be great entertainment and fun for families and punters alike.
