Foley is left lost for words

02 Feb, 2012 05:00 AM
AUSTRALIA Day arrived and left with a sweat and a splash with 130 residents running in the annual fun run and then jumping into the pool at the Junee Junction Recreation and Aqautic Centre.

The official ceremony recognised some of Junee’s many volunteers both young and old and how their efforts had contributed.

Retiree Pat Foley was named Junee’s Citizen of the Year.

“I’ve never been lost for words in my life,” Mr Foley said.

“You don’t work in the community for the rewards ... but I appreciate the recognition,” he said.

Mr Foley donates his time and effort to many local organisations and has been awarded life membership of Junee Rugby League, Junee Harness Racing Club and Junee Ex-Services Club.

Mr Foley also works closely with the showground trust, St Joseph’s Church and St Vincent de Paul.

Much of the work includes ensuring financial reports of the clubs are in order and has previously been recognised by the Junee Rotary Club for going beyond the call of duty.
