ONE of Junee’s longest serving educators has decided to finish on a high after a long career educating Australia’s future leaders.
Junee Public School’s (JPS) principal Bobbie Macaulay has ended her 33-year association with the NSW Department of Education.
Mrs Macaulay spent 15 years in the Junee district, firstly as a teaching principal at Illabo and the last two years leading Junee Public School.
Much of Mrs Macualay’s career has been spent in small schools and she was principal at Bongongo for 12 years.
“Working in a small school like Junee, you can get to know the families really well and interact with the children on a personal level,” she said.
Mrs Macaulay will be spending her time in the garden and with her family after spending many hours in the classroom finding better ways of teaching the children of the Junee community.
“I’m a bit of a workaholic and getting home early during the week can be tricky,” she said.
JPS assistant principal Owen Gill has returned to Junee with his family and will take over the role of relieving principal until a permenent appointment can be made.
Mr Gill said he was impressed how quickly staff and students at JPS had settled back in to the school routine after the summer break.
“Mrs Macaulay’s passion towards her students and staff will be missed,” he said.
Mrs Macaulay has left a significant legacy for JPS, having negotiated for a better deal in its Building the Education Revolution funding application which refurbished seven classrooms for students.
