IT could possibly be a dream season for farmers after a
good dumping of rain over the last week revitalised farmers’ hopes.
After over a decade of drought and failing crops, farmers are optimistic about their winter crops with the chance of growing a top crop well within their reach.
Junee Ag’N’Vet field marketing agronomist Tim Stivens said the rain would go along way towards ensuring crops shape up well.
“It’s easily pushing down the moisture probe by at least one metre, which is setting us up pretty well for spring,” he said.
He said while there were concerns it may be too wet for spraying or top dressing, once paddocks clear the chances of a good season are strong.
“There is certainly good potential at the moment in rewards for getting more for their grain with extra quality and not in extra yeild,” he said.
Junee received approximately 20 millimetres of rain before the weekend with a clear weekend giving crops the chance to dry out.
