WHILE many are happy to give others the shirt off their back, two Junee Correctional Centre staff gave the hair off their heads yesterday.
GEO Group employees Danielle Foster and Margaret Philpott lost their locks to raise money for the Regional Oxygen Bank Incorporated.
Ms Foster cut off her long hair, while Mrs Philpott shaved her head to raise more than $4000 for the purchase of a mobile oxygen unit to be used by babies.
Staff, inmates, friends and family generously supported the event, with the inmates alone pledging $1300.
Between 300 and 400 people across the Riverina are oxygen dependant, according to Regional Oxygen Bank Incorporated chairman Marilyn Bragg.
She said the bank’s aim was to provide people with access to a portable oxygen concentrator for better mobility and at a lower cost.
The only problem facing the organisation is the $6000 cost behind each unit.
Overwhelmed by the support from the GEO Group
and correctional centre inmates, Mrs Bragg said her organiation now had the ability to purchase the unit for babies straight away.
Debbie Longmore from Deb On Hair in Junee donated her time to cut off the hair.
