Drivers warned about school zone speeds

26 Jan, 2012 07:30 AM
JUNEE drivers are warned that 40 kilometre per hour school zones begin again on January 27 starting at 8.30am.

This weekend double demerits will also be handed out to

drivers caught speeding across the shire.

Residents driving through school zones should be aware the high penalty for speeding in school zones will be doubled for Friday.

“School zones operate on all gazetted school days to ensure the safety of students who may be travelling to or from school,” a Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) spokesperson said.

“Not all motorists will know if the school they are driving past is having a pupil-free day or if students are at school,” they said.

Drivers could face a maximum fine of more than $2000 and loss of licence if they are caught speeding in school zones this Friday.
