THE Junee Diesels had a convincing 60-6 victory over the Young Cherrypickers last Sunday in a home game.
The big win puts the Diesels third on the group ladder, just thee points behind Wagga Brothers and Kangaroos.
Junee scored seven unanswered tries in the first half to lead 42-0 and two more to dynamic centre Damien Willis early in the second half took the Diesels to a 54-0 scoreline.
Willis had a big day, scoring three tries and kicking 10 out of 10 for a personal tally of 32 points.
The challenge is on between the two Diesels centres in the try-scoring department, with Sione Tongia bagging two on the day.
Winger Gavin Lamb scored with only eight minutes to go, giving Junee a runaway scoreline of 60-0, with Young’s only points coming late in the game.
Lamb’s try was scored wide out putting pressure on Willis to keep his goal kicking record intact, but the big centre made no mistake putting the ball straight between the posts.
Along with Willis, lock Cameron Woo was a standout, setting up play for the Diesels to score.
Willis won the players’ award with the coaches’ trophy being shared between Woo and flying winger Ashley Hamilton.
Fullback Josh Whitty had a strong game scoring a brilliant try midway through the first half.
Whitty caught the ball from a Young kick on his own 20-metre line to run right through the Pickers’ defence to score right under the black dot.
