JUNEE High School and Junee Rotary Club have supported a program to donate books to a book-aid charity dedicated to a campaign against illiteracy.
At the end of 2009, Junee High School packed up eight boxes of disused books from the school’s library.
After contacting the Rotary Club for collection, it was
only recently that the books were sent off to the Ranfurly Library Service in Rozelle, Sydney.
Volunteers from the service sorted through the books, dividing them into containers before they were shipped all over the Pacific Islands where English is studied.
Since it began, Ranfurly has shipped just over 2.5 million books to Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Thursday Island, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Western Samoa as well as Australian Aboriginal communities.
