02 Feb 12 | SINCE asking the community about potentially dangerous dogs in the district Junee Shire Council has received a number of responses. Council development and environmental services director Ralph Tambasco said inspections would begin soon. Mr Tambasco said ensuring the dogs were registered and micochipped was only one part of a resident’s responsibilites under the Companion Animals Acts with enclosed yards also a requirement.
Final bell for Bobbie Macaulay
02 Feb 12 | ONE of Junee’s longest serving educators has decided to finish on a high after a long career educating Australia’s future leaders. Junee Public School’s (JPS) principal Bobbie Macaulay has ended her 33-year association with the NSW Department of Education.
02 Feb 12 | JUNEE’S citizen of the year, Pat Foley, was in distinguished company last week during the Australia Day awards. Several of Junee’s volunteers were recognised for the effort they put in each day for many of the town’s organisations. “We all know someone who does so much for the community quietly without looking for recognition,” mayor Lola Cummins said.
Youths’ futures look bright
02 Feb 12 | THE futures of three Junee High School students have been given a major boost by the GEO Group. Ebony Becquet, Billie-Rose Deacon and Jade Belling all received a $2500 Youth In Focus scholarhship which will help them pursue their dreams – either academic, creative or sporting.
02 Feb 12 | JUNEE residents may have spotted a Mercedes-Benz single decker bus travelling around town on Tuesday. On board the bus were representatives of tourism and visitor centre operators from Young, Cowra, Canberra plus a number of local representatives.
02 Feb 12 | AUSTRALIA Day arrived and left with a sweat and a splash with 130 residents running in the annual fun run and then jumping into the pool at the Junee Junction Recreation and Aqautic Centre. The official ceremony recognised some of Junee’s many volunteers both young and old and how their efforts had contributed.
Fond farewell to Turks
26 Jan 12 | AFTER 12 years of working with the community of Junee, Chris and Annette Turk are heading west. Originally beginning as pastor for the Junee Baptist Church, Mr Turk has been chaplain for the past six years. Mrs Turk has been incredibly active in the community working on many different projects, the most recent of which is the Open Kitchen, a program started by the Junee Combined Churches.
26 Jan 12 | JUNEE drivers are warned that 40 kilometre per hour school zones begin again on January 27 starting at 8.30am. This weekend double demerits will also be handed out to drivers caught speeding across the shire. Residents driving through school zones should be aware the high penalty for speeding in school zones will be doubled for Friday.
Poker run, golf club in new deal
26 Jan 12 | HUNDREDS of motorbikes will be roaring through Junee on Saturday, February 4 for the annual Junee Poker Run. Organised for the eighth year running, the run needed some extra space and has moved to the Junee Golf Club to accomodate more than 500 people expected to arrive.
26 Jan 12 | JUNEE Shire Council is putting the call out to residents to help track down dogs which may pose a danger to the community. Coming after the weekend’s incident where a staghound mauled another dog and attacked a resident, the council is hoping residents will ensure their pets are microchipped and registered.
Beloved pet lost in vicious attack
26 Jan 12 | KEVIN and Joan Longmore lost a part of their family when their small dog, Tedy, was attacked and died over the weekend. Early on Saturday morning, the Longmores were walking in Gloucester Street when a staghound picked up the Jack Russell in its jaws.
26 Jan 12 | IT’S THE day to celebrate what’s great in Junee and there’s plenty to do. Some Junee residents will be getting up at the crack of dawn for the annual fun run from Park Lane. The GEO Group and Junee Junction Recreation and Aquatic Centre (JJRAC) Jail Break Fun Run will start at 7.30am.
Graduates already on the job
19 Jan 12 | TWO Junee women have successfully completed their nursing qualifications through the Riverina Institute of TAFE. Gradutating last month, Fiona Herbert and Bianca Guthrie received their dipolmas and have already begun putting their new skills to work.
19 Jan 12 | COUNCILLORS Lola Cummins and Norm Bray will be taking a full briefcase to the G Division conference in February. On Tuesday Junee Shire Council voted to bring several motions to the conference to be considered for representation by the Shires Association of NSW.
Residents forced to switch
19 Jan 12 | SOME televisions in Junee will not be displaying a signal from today with the analogue frequency turned off, months ahead of the schedule in NSW. Originally set for June, the repeater station in Beach Street will be deactivated and there are some residents in Junee who haven’t prepared for the change as yet.
19 Jan 12 | JUNEE will be one of the first towns in the Riverina to switch off its analogue signal as of today, almost five months earlier than most towns. The signal was scheduled to be changed over in June but problems with television reception prompted the Digital Switchover Taskforce to bring it forward.
Naming issue grows Daley
19 Jan 12 | THE decision to rename Willow Park Laurie Daley Park received brief mention at the first Junee Shire Council meeting for the year. Council general manager Greg Campbell noted he had recevied a recission motion for the previous decision to drop the name of Willow Park.  | Willow parked
19 Jan 12 | BUDDING cartoonists in Junee had help from one of the masters of the craft with Andrew Hore coming to town to share his skills. Just under 20 school children were on hand at Junee library and, armed with pencil and paper, learnt how to put their imaginiation to paper using basic shapes.
Junee youth to visit cinema, gym
12 Jan 12 | HOLIDAY activities in Junee have started with plenty of the district’s children having a good time during their break from school. The traditional movie bus trip organised by Junee Shire Council is close to exceeding expectations. Set for January 18, council’s community development officer Jacinta Ryan said one bus had already been filled and a second one – which was on the waiting list was filling up quickly as well.
12 Jan 12 | RESIDENTS in Temora are petitioning Temora Shire Council to change the name of one of the roads leading into town. The Junee Road leads off from the Goldenfields Way and represents less than a kilometre of tarmac. Residents highlighted that the Junee Road doesn’t begin from Junee, but rather leads to Wagga through Old Junee.
